Robert Travers, Esq.
(1828-1904)
30 May 1861

Volume 3, page 331, sitting number 4005.

Born on 25 September 1828, Robert Augustus Travers was the son of Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Travers, late of the 22nd Light Dragoons, and his wife Catherine née Lee. At the time of his birth his father was 59 and his mother was 28.

On 21 December 1850, at Rathbarrry in County Cork, he married Alice Jane Stewart, eldest daughter of the Reverend Henry Stewart, Vicar of Rathbarry. The ceremony was performed by the bride’s father (Cork Constitutional, 24 December 1850).

Their marriage produced at least five sons and three daughters.

The family lived at Timoleague in County Cork, where Robert was a gentleman farmer and a magistrate for more than 50 years.

Alice Jane Travers died at Timoleague on 28 April 1896 (Cork Constitutional, 29 April 1896).

Robert Augustus Travers died, aged 75, on 12 February 1904 and was buried at Timoleague. He left an estate valued at £8331.

His cattle was sold by auction soon after his death on 21 March 1904. ‘The auctioneers wish to direct special attention to the opportunity afforded by this Sale of securing Cattle from a Herd notorious [sic] for its milking qualities, as the late Mr Travers was known to be most practical in such matters, and spared no expense in maintaining the efficiency and reputation of his Herd’ (Cork Examiner, 17 March 1904).
