Miss Couper
21 May 1862

Volume 6, page 340, sitting number 8230.

[The sitter is identified as 'Miss Couper' in the Silvy daybooks. The following sitter is 'Miss M.S. Couper' or perhaps 'Miss M.J. Couper,' wearing an identical dress. It is safe to assume that this is the sitter's younger sister. It was a widely followed convention at the time for the elder or eldest daughter in a family to be known only as 'Miss + Surname,' while any younger sister(s) styled themselves as 'Miss + forename(s) or initial(s) + Surname.' The only candidates I have found for a fuller identification are the daughters of a baker, so are not likely to have visited Silvy's studio.
