Born Hester Fortescue King at Woburn Lodge in Chertsey [Surrey] in 1837, her parents were the Honourable Peter John Locke King, the Member of Parliament for East Surrey, and his wife Louisa Elizabeth née Hoare.
Miss Hester Fortescue King never married. She died at Brooklands near Weybridge in 1915.
Her brother was the entrepreneur Sir Hugh Fortescue Locke King (1848-1926), who founded and financed the creation of Brooklands, the motor racing circuit and airfield in Surrey.
