Miss Dora Shakerley

Baptised at Davenham in Cheshire on 11 April 1836, Miss Dorothy Shakerley was the daughter of Geoffrey Joseph Shakerley of Whatcroft Hall Mansion, Cheshire. She appears at this address on the 1861 census, aged 26, together with four other unmarried sisters. Frances, the eldest, was 29 years old; Augusta, the youngest, was 16. Their father gave as his profession 'Magistrate and Gentleman.'
Miss Shakerley never married. She appears on the 1911 census living at Rowling House in Goodnestone near Canterbury in Kent. Aged 76, she had five servants to look after her: a lady's maid, a parlourmaid, a housemaid, a cook and a groom.
She died, aged 84, on 10 October 1918 at Hazelbank, South Nutfield, Surrey. She left an estate valued at £6009.
