Major Francis Winter
(1805-1893)

Born on 24 November 1805 at Agher in County Meath, Francis Winter was the son of John Pratt Winter of Agher, County Meath. He rose to the rank of Major in the service of the Bengal Army. On 18 April 1850 at St George's in Dublin he married Anna Julia Caulfeild (died 1909), the eldest daughter of Colonel John Caulfeild (1792-1865) of Bloomfield, Co Westmeath.

The couple appear on the 1871 census living at 16 Inverness Terrace, Paddington. 

Francis Winter 'retired major Her Majesty's Bengal army' died on 17 May 1893 at 37 De Vere Gardens, Kensington, leaving an estate valued at £4596. He was 86 years old.
