Lambarde, Esq.
26 March 1863
Volume 10, page 133, sitting number 12,902.
Identified in the Silvy daybooks simply as 'Lambarde Esq.,' this is possibly Frank Lambarde, who was a Captain in the Staffordshire Militia. He appears on the 1861 census staying or living with his brother Multon Lambarde and his family at Sevenoaks in Kent. He was born in or about 1830 at Sevenoaks.
Francis Lambarde 'of 6 Mores-garden Cheyne Walk Middlesex' died on 23 October 1913 at 75 Oxford Terrace, Bayswater, leaving an estate valued at £340.
On 31 Octobeer 1913 the Sevenoaks Chronicle and Kentish Advertiser published a short report on his funeral, which included some biographical details. 'On Wednesday, at the Parish Church Cemetery, Sevenoaks, the interment took place of Mr Francis Lambarde, who died at 75, Oxford Terrace, London, at the age of 83 years. Mr Lambarde was the son of Mr William Lambarde, who lived at Sevenoaks House in the early part of the last century, and which was pulled down when he moved to Beechmont. He was brother to Mr Multon Lambarde, many years chairman of the Bench of Magistrates, who succeeded Mr William Lambarde at Beechmont. The family, as most of our readers will remember, is descended from the famous William Lambarde, known as the perambulator of Kent, who was Master of the Rolls in the reign of Queen Elizabeth, and whose monument may be seen in the Parish Church of Sevenoaks, just inside the north door. Mr Francis Lambarde lived for many years at Manor House, Ash, and also for some time at Ashenden Hall, in Suffolk, lately removing to London where he died.'
The list of mourners at the funeral mentions 'Major Fane Lambard (son of the deceased)' and the information that 'Mr Lambarde's second son and daughter are in Canada.'
