Sir Somerset Richard Lowry-Corry was born on 9 April 1835 in Bruton Street, London, the son of Armar Lowry-Corry, 3rd Earl of Belmore and Emily Louise née Shepherd. At the death of his father in 1855 he gained the title 4th Earl of Belmore. He was educated at Eton and at Trinity College, Cambridge. On 22 August 1861 he married at St George’s, Hanover Square, Anne Elizabeth Honoria Gladstone, daughter of Captain John Neilson Gladstone and Elizabeth Honoria née Bateson.

Lord Belmore died on 6 April 1913 at the age of 77, in Castle Coole, Inniskillen.
