Lady Louisa Jane Cecil Legge was born on 6 November 1830, the daughter of William Legge (1784-1853), 4th Earl of Dartmouth, by his second wife, Frances, daughter of Reverend George Barrington, 5th Viscount Barrington of Ardglass.

She appears on the 1861 census, living with three of her unmarried sisters (Frances, Katherine and Barbara) at 134 Marine Parade in Brighton.

She appears on the 1871 census, living with four of her unmarried sisters (Barbara, Charlotte, Octavia and Wilhelmina) at 17 Great Cumberland Place, London, which is just behind Marble Arch. Lady Louisa was the head of the household, and apart from her sisters, had seven servants to help her run the house.

Lady Louisa Legge never married. She died on 12 February 1910 at 78 Marina in St Leonards-on-Sea, leaving an estate valued at £8240. Probate was granted to her brother-in-law Nathaniel Barnardiston.

[From an album compiled and decorated by the Honourable Augustus Gough-Calthorpe, later 6th Baron Calthorpe. A portrait of this sitter's brother the Honourable Arthur Legge appears on the same page of the album, as does one of her sister, Lady Florence Barnardiston and her brother-in-law, Nathaniel Barnardiston.]
