Mrs Charles Archer
(1830-1891)
26 October 1860

Volume 2, page 58, sitting number 1529.

[Identified as 'Mrs Charles Archer' in the Silvy daybooks, this is possibly the wife of Reverend Charles Archer, Rector of Alderton in Norfolk.]

Born Jessie Chamberlin on 25 May 1830 at Norwich, her father was draper Henry Chamberlin. She was baptised on 6 June 1830 at St Stephen's in Norwich.

When the census was taken in 1851, her family were living in the village of Brundall, about 7 miles east of Norwich. Her father gave 'Linen and Woollen Draper' as his profession.

On 1 August 1854 at Narborough in Norfolk she married the recently appointed Curate of Narborough, Charles Goodwyn Archer. In 1856 her husband became the Rector of Alderton, a position he filled until his death in 1910.

The couple appear on the 1861 census, living at the Rectory in Alderton. The household included four servants.

The Archers were still living at the Rectory in 1891. Jessie died there the following year at the age of 62.

Her husband survived her by nearly twenty years. He died at Alderton Rectory on 28 November 1910, leaving an estate valued at £11,497.
