Mrs Osborne Barwell
(1830-1870)

Volume 4, page 334, sitting number 5408. 

Born Margaretta Maria Jacson on 2 February 1830 at Barton Lodge in Lancashire, the youngest daughter of George and Charlotte Jacson, she was baptised on 9 November 1830 at Broughton near Preston.

She appears on the 1851 census as Maria M. Jacson, living in Cheltenham with her widowed mother, brother William, and two servants.

On 13 August 1857 at Broughton in Lancashire Maria Margaretta Jacson of Barton Hall married Osborne Nathaniel Henry Barwell 'of the Madras Army' (London Evening Standard, 18 August 1857).

The 1861 census records the couple living at South Swiss Cottage in Worthing, Sussex. Also present that night were their ten-month-old daughter Maud and four servants. Osborne Barwell gave ‘H.M. Indian Army’ as his profession.

Mrs Barwell died, aged 40, on 22 December 1870 at Barkfold, Kirdford, near Billingshurst in Sussex. The cause of death was 'heart disease.'
