Louis Guéymard
(1822-1880)

The French tenor Louis Guéymard debuted at Lyons in 1845. The leading tenor at the Paris-Opéra until 1868, he created many roles, including Arrigo in Les vêpres siciliennes, Jonas in Le prophète and Assad in La reine de Saba. He was married to the Belgian soprano Pauline Lauters-Guéymard.

He is possibly seen here as the eponymous hero of Auguste Mermet's four-act opera Roland à Roncevaux, first staged on 3 October 1864 at the Académie impériale de musique in Paris.
