Mlle Chalgrin

A pencilled inscription verso in a period hand identifies the sitter as Mlle ‘Chalgrin’ of the ‘Opéra.' The sitter is possibly seen here costumed for Prince Poniatowski’s Pierre de Médicis, which premièred at the Salle Le Peletier on 9 March 1860.
