Charles Bonnesseur
(1825-1896)

The bass Charles Bonnesseur is possibly seen here in a production of Verdi’s Il trovatore [French: Il trouvère]. Set in Spain in 1409, the opera was based on the enormously popular drama El trovador by the Spanish playwright Antonio García Gutiérrez. A production of the opera opened at the Salle Le Peletier on 22 September 1862.
