M. Fréret
in Auber's La muette de Portici
The opera singer Fréret is seen here in the role of Borella, friend of the hero Masaniello, in Daniel Auber's La Muette de Portici, loosely basied on the historical uprising of 1647 against Spanish rule in Naples, which was led by the fisherman Masaniello.
Fréret made his debut at the Salle Le Peletier on 14 July 1856, as 'a hunter' in Guillaume Tell, a part he later reprised at the Palais Garnier in 1878.
During his long career he created 'de Gaucourt' in Jeanne d'Arc and 'a rajah' in Le roi de Lahore
