Alix Bressant
(1838-1909)
The French actress Eugénie Alix Bressant was born in Paris on 21 September 1838, the daughter of actors Prosper and Elisabeth Bressant. Known professionally as Alix Bressant or simply as Mlle Bressant, she made her debut in October 1859 at the Théâtre du Vaudeville. She appeared at the Théâtre du Gymnase from 1861 until 1865, when she departed on a tour of Russia.
In 1867 in St Petersburg she retired from the stage and married Prince Mikhaïl Viktorovitch Kotchoubeï. Their marriage produced five children. Following the death of her husband in 1873, she moved back to Paris, where five years later she married Baron Paul-Adrien d'Artigues.
Following her retirement from acting, she turned to literature. At first she published under her maiden name, then as Princess Kotchoubey, and finally as Madame d'Artigues.
She died in Nice on 29 September 1909.
