Victoria Lafontaine
(1841-1918)
Of very modest origins, Victoria Valous was born in Lyon in 1841. While still a child, she appeared as an amateur in Lyon, Pau and Nîmes. In 1857 she appeared in Paris at the Gymnase, where her grace and freshness brought her success. In 1863 she married fellow actor Henri Lafontaine and in the same year she was elected the 285th sociétaire of the Comédie-Française.
