Charles Cynric Wellesley Vesey was baptised on 15 July 1833 at Hampton St Mary, Richmond-upon-Thames. He was the older brother of Arthur Charles Vesey, who visited Silvy's studio on the same day.
Following his education at the Royal Military College, he joined the 81st Regiment of Foot in 1850. At the time of the 1851 census he was an Ensign stationed at Horfield Barracks in Gloucestershire.
Charles Vesey appears on the 1881 census, a 'retired major,' age 47 and unmarried.
Major Vesey 'of the Army and Navy Club Pall Mall' died on 5 February 1910 at 41 Westbourne Park Road, Paddington. He left an estate valued at £38,302.
