| A carte-de-visite portrait of actress Kate Terry, a younger sister of Ellen Terry. She retired from the stage in 1867 when she married Arthur Lewis, but ‘at the height of her career she had been considered a better actress than her more famous sister, Ellen’ (Oxford Companion to the Theatre, 1951). She is seen here in a scene from Love’s Martyr, in which she appeared in 1866 with Henry Neville at the Royal Olympic Theatre, then under the management of Horace Wigan.
