A carte-de-visite portrait of an Egyptian maidservant.

An inked inscription verso in a period hand reads Bonne egyptienne, se distingue des maitresses par son voile blanc [ Egyptian maidservant, distinguished from her mistresses by her white veil.]

Photographer unidentified.

All the cartes-de-visite on this page, and many on the following pages, bear inscriptions in the same nineteenth-century hand and are dated 1869. It seems likely that were all originally acquired at the same time and from the same stockist.
