Reginald Courtenay

A carte-de-visite portrait of the Rt. Rev. Reginald Courtenay (1813-1906), who from 1856 to 1879 held the office of Bishop of Kingston, Jamaica.

Born in England in 1813, he graduated from Oxford in 1835. From 1842 to 1853 he was rector of Thornton Watlass in Yorkshire and in 1853 he was appointed archdeacon of Middlesex in Jamaica. In 1856 he was consecrated bishop of Kingston and coadjutor to the bishop of Jamaica. He retained his archdeaconry, and had jurisdiction over the entire diocese, which includes British Honduras. He resigned in 1879.

condition: The print is in excellent condition, with rich tonal range. Its upper corners have been slightly
clipped but the mount is otherwise in fine condition.
