Three Japanese women

A carte-de-visite portrait of three Japanese women, probably performers. An inked inscription verso in French reads: ‘Femmes japonaises’ [Japanese women].

Photographed by Pun-ky, identified by his red wetstamp on the reverse of the mount. Probably Chinese although he also appears to have taken photographs in Annam [present day Vietnam], Pun-Ky had an outlet in both Hong Kong and Shanghai. However, very little is known about him, and it is at least possible that the name refers to a shop and not a photographer.
