Rowland Egerton

Rowland Egerton was born in Cheshire in 1838. According to Hart’s Army List (1867), he joined the Army as an Ensign on 24 October 1857, rising to the rank of Lieutenant by purchase on 18 November 1859 in the service of the Rifle Brigade.

Lieutenant-Colonel Rowland Egerton died on 2 April 1923 at 2, Carlisle Place, Westminster, after a short illness. He was 84 years old.

The portrait appears in Volume 4 (page 253, sitting 5081) of the Silvy daybooks in the archives of the National Portrait Gallery in London.

condition: The print presents a couple of small imperfections – one just under the painting on the wall and
one on the sitter’s trouser leg – but is otherwise in excellent condition, as is the mount.
