Wakefield Prison
A topographical carte-de-visite showing a view of mediaeval ruins standing in the middle of a large courtyard. A pencilled inscription on the reverse of the mount identifies the location as ‘Wakefield Prison’ but I’m not sure if this can be trusted. The photographer is a Gateshead man, and it’s nearly 90 miles from Gateshead to Wakefield.

Photographed by Henry Piper of Gateshead.

condition: The print shows a few small imperfections in the area of the sky but is otherwise in excellent condition, as is the mount.
