| A carte-de-visite portrait of the bass-baritone Edouard Gassier (1823-1871).
Gassier made his debut in London at the Theatre Royal in 1855. He first appeared in the United States in 1858. His wife, Madame Josefa Gassier, was a celebrated soprano. Edouard Gassier died of yellow fever in Havana on 15 December 1871 (some sources say 18 December). Photographed by John Mayall of London and Brighton. |
