| A cabinet card portrait of two dancers, one of whom is wearing a decidedly risqué costume. Unusually, the photograph appears to have been taken on the stage of the theatre in which the ladies were appearing, as various other members of the cast may be seen in the background. This tantalizingly fleeting glimpse captures something of the flavour and atmosphere of an early twentieth-century revue.
An inked inscription verso in a period hand reads ‘J. de Lyane / Miss Rouge / 1907.’ Photographed by Paul Boyer of 35, boulevard des Capucines, Paris. |
