| Is this a mailroom? I’m not altogether sure. The large canvas sacks certainly look like mailbags. The one in the centre of the photograph has been stencilled ‘Palmers Green to N.D.O. sack via Canonbury Station’. The one on the worktop next to the man reads ‘Palmers Green to N.D.O. via Holloway, so the location is almost certainly North London.
A paper label pasted to the reverse of the mount reads ‘Taken on March 1st, 1905’ and beneath this there’s a name and address, ‘J. Whittenbury, 3 Moffat Road, Palmers Green, N.13.’ Photographer unidentified. |
