An unmounted albumen print showing Talamanca Indians of Costa Rica in Central America. The group includes a white man in European dress, who has his hand placed proprietorially on the shoulder of a bare-breasted, indigenous woman.

Photographer unidentified.

The print measures 7” by 9.2” (178 mm by 234 mm). It is numbered 2507 in the negative in two separate places. A pencilled inscription verso in a period hand reads Talamanca Indians / Full dress. Presumably the latter part of the inscription is ironical.

condition: The print has good tonal range overall but shows a small area of fading towards the right-hand edge. There are also several creases and light wrinkles in the print, none of them particularly off-putting. Two of the sitters have moved during the exposure and their faces are blurred.
