A glossy gelatin silver print of the late 1950’s or 1960’s showing Indian dancer Ram Gopal dressed as Shiva. A pencilled inscription on the reverse of the print reads Siva, God of Creation, preservation and dissolution. The photograph was once a part of the sitter’s own collection, dispersed after his death in 2003.

Photographed by Houston Rogers of 20, Sloane Street, London. The photographer is identified by his wetstamp on the reverse of the print.

The print measures 9.9” by 7.6” ( 250 mm by 192 mm); it is unmounted and has no borders.

condition: The tip of the lower right-hand corner of the print is slightly bent and there is a small mark to the right of the sitter’s head, but the print is otherwise in excellent condition.
