| An albumen print showing a light, two-wheeled carriage drawn by a pair of oxen. An inked inscription in a period hand in the lower margin reads ‘Bullock gharry’.
Photographed by [Charles] Shepherd and [James] Robertson. Numbered ‘1128’ and signed in the negative. Shepherd and Robertson were in partnership together roughly from 1858 to 1864, but when they went their separate ways, Shepherd obviously took many of their negatives with him and continued printing from them for many years. This print probably dates from some 30 years after the partnership was dissolved. The print measures 6.7” by 9.1” (172 mm by 232 mm) and is mounted on a slightly larger section of cut-down album page that has been neatly separated from its reverse by a professional conservator. |
