An unmounted, matt silver print dating from the 1940’s showing the Indian dancer Ram Gopal.

Photographed by Madame d’Ora, identified recto in the lower left-hand corner of the print and wetstamp on the reverse of the mount reading d’Ora / 22 bis, Rue Eugène-Flachat / Paris / R.C. Seine 311 482 -5.

’Madame d’Ora’ was the professional name of the Austrian photograph Dora Philippine Kallmus (1881-1960) who ran a successful commercial studio in Paris.

Including a narrow white border, the print measures 11.6” by 9.1” (295 mm by 232 mm) including a narrow white border not shown in the scan.

condition: The print shows several small stains, a number of pinholes at each corner, and some diagonal creases at the upper left-hand
corner. In addition, the print shows a grid of pencil marks, perhaps made by a compositor as preparation for publication.
