| A collection of twenty-six matt silver print showing prisoners of war in a camp at Münster in North Rhine-Westphalia. All the portraits are from an album compiled by one of the guards at the camp and were taken around 1915. The portraits mainly show soldiers from the French and British colonies, including Ghurkas, Moroccans, Senegalese, ‘Mohammedans’ and Arabs. There are also some Italian soldiers, some soldiers from the Tyrol (one desribed as an ‘Alpenjäger’) and one Russian. Many of the soldiers who were photographed individually also appear in a group portrait.
Photographer unidentified. Twenty of the prints measure 4” by 2.6” (101 mm by 67 mm). Six of the prints measure 3.7” by 5.6” (95 mm by 143 mm). |
