A rare post-mortem portrait from Dakar, the capital of Senegal in West Africa showing a dead African baby surrounded by flowers. At the time that the photograph was taken, around the 1920's, Senegal was a French colony.

Photographed by V. W. Bènehône of Dakar, identified recto on the mount in the lower margin.

The print measures 4" by 5.8" (101 mm by 146 mm) and the mount, which is a pale green-grey colour, measures 7.1" by 8.3" (180 mm by 210 mm).
