An English cabinet card showing a woman on her deathbed, her head resting on a floral pillowcase, a crocheted shawl over her upper body. The portrait also gives a rare glimse of a domestic interior.

Photographed by S. P. L. Phillips of 147, North End, Croydon [about 11 miles due south of London]. The 1891 census shows a Samuel P. L. Phillips, Photographer, aged thirty-five, living at 15, Cherry Orchard Road, Croydon. By the time of the 1901 census, he and his family had moved to 24, Oakfield Road, Croydon.
