Volume 1, page 46. sitting number 388.

From the album of Somerville Gurney, a prominent Quaker of Norfolk.

Identifed as Mrs. William Birkbeck in the family album, the daybooks give this sitter's name as Miss Hamond, so presumably another sister of Mrs. Katherine Gurney, née Hamond. The same sitter appears later in the daybooks (24 October 1862) identified as Mrs. William Birkbeck, so presumably Miss Hamond married Mr. Birkbeck sometime between 1860 and 1862.

The 1861 census shows Willaim Birkbeck, a 28-year-old banker and widower of Thorpe Grove, Thorpe, Norfolk, living with his 2-year-old son, William John Birkbeck, and 6 servants. The IGI shows that William Birkbeck married Susan Maria Hamond. daughter of Anthony Hamond, at St. James's, Westminster, on 14 October 1862.
