Lord Alexander George Russell, eighth son of John Russell (1766-1839), 6th Duke of Bedford, by his second wife, Lady Georgina Gordon. He was born on 16 September 1821. On 3 July 1844, he married Anne Emily Worsley Holmes, daughter of Sir Leonard Worsley Holmes, 9th Baronet. He gained the rank of General in the service of the Rifle Brigade, and was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.). He died on 10 January 1907 at the age of 85.
