Possibly Captain Charles Samuel Slocock of the Royal Berkshire Militia. He became a Captain in 1852 and resigned in 1861. He appears on the 1861 census at the family residence, Donnington Lodge, in Berkshire. Also present were his father, Charles Slocock, a banker, aged 72, his mother, Sophia, aged 73, his wife, Mary, aged 32, and his daughter, Evelyn, one month old. He gave his place of birth as Donnington, and his profession as "Magistrate and banker." He was 40 years old. The album in which in this carte was found belonged to Rose Isabella Susan Preston (born 1842), later the wife of Lieutenant-Colonel Charles H. Shuttleworth. At the time that the album was compiled, she was living at Madehurst Lodge, Madehurst, Sussex. |
