| Volume 8, page 288, sitting number 10,773.
The Silvy daybooks identify the sitter as 'Mons. P. West'. Although the French form of address is usual in the first volume of the Silvy daybooks, it had become so uncommon by 1862 that its use is possibly significant. Despite his surname, the gentleman's appearance certainly suggests that he might be Continental. |
