Born Elizabeth Montagu Burgoyne, a daughter of John Fox Burgoyne, she married Edward Sebastian Woodhouse on 27 July 1858 at St. James’s, Paddington. At the time of the 1861 census, the couple were living at 26, Gloucester Place, Marylebone. Edward Woodhouse, aged 25, was a British Subject born in Portugal. He gave ‘Wine Merchant’ as his profession. Elizabeth Woodhouse was born in Ireland in or about 1832. Her husband died in 1887; his death was registered in the district of Brighton, Sussex. She is probably the Elizabeth M. Woodhouse who died, aged 86, in Kensington in 1918. From an album compiled by Charles Balfour, a British wine merchant importing sherry and port from Portugal. Born in Edinburgh on 22 August 1822, his father was James Balfour. In May 1852 he married Mary Ermelinda, daughter of Robert Woodhouse of Oporto in Portugal. The couple was married at the consulate then afterwards at the British chapel in Oporto. Charles Balfour died on 12 January 1876. |
