Hart’s Army List (1860) gives two officers with the surname Hill serving in the Royal Artillery, a Second Captain by the name of Peter Edward Hill and a Captain by the name of Charles Rowland Hill. The dates of the latter are 21 July 1829 to 30 October 1898 and he reached the rank of Major-General in the service of the Royal Artillery.
