Identified recto on the mount as the ‘Cte. de Bourbon-Chalus [and mentioned in Disdéri’s catalogue of March 1861 as the ‘comte Bourbon de Chalus’], this is probably Gaspard, comte de Boubon-Chalus.

The son of François Louis Joseph de Bourbon, comte de Busset, he was born in Paris on 21 January 1819. He married, firstly, in 1847, Celeste des Bravards Deyssat du Prat (1825-1857) and secondly, in 1860, Marie Yel de Castelnaut (1832-1899). He died, aged 52, at the Chateau de Busset in the Auvergne on 10 November1871 and was buried there.
