Adelaide Borghi-Mamo was an Italian mezzo-soprano with a voice of great power. She made her debut in December 1846 in her native city of Bologna, and later performed in all the leading cities of Europe to great acclaim. In Paris she sang with the Théâtre-Italien, where amongst other roles, she sang the part of Azucena in Le Trouvère under Verdi’s direction. One of her favourite roles was Climene in Pacini’s Saffo.
