He is seen here in Prince Joseph Poniatowski's Pierre de Médicis, first performed at the Académie Impériale de Musique on 9 March 1860, in which he danced the role of 'a faun' in the second act ballet Les Amours de Diane, choreographed by Petipa.

Pasted to the reverse of the mount is the small paper label of the stockist where the carte was originally purchased, Lesage of Dublin. The album from which it came was assembled by a Dr. Martin Batt Tanner of Summerlands, Exeter, Devon. An inked inscription on the album’s frontispiece read ‘Photographs of Celebrities / in 1862 / collected by me whilst residing at the / Rotunda Hospital, Dublin.’
