Choreographed by Marie Taglioni (music by Jacques Offenbach, libretto by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges), the 'ballet fantasique' in 2 acts was first performed at the Paris Opéra on 26 November 1860. The principal dancers were Emma Livry (as Farfalla/ the Butterfly), Louis Mérante (as Prince Djalma), Louise Marquet (as the Fairy Hamza) and Mme. Simon (as the Diamond Fairy). |
