William Gordon Cornwallis Eliot was born on 14 December 1829. He was the son of Edward Granville Eliot, 3rd Earl of St. Germans and Lady Jemima Cornwalllis. On 7 October 1877 his succeeded his father as 4th Earl of St. Germans.
He died on 19 March 1881. All the portraits on this page are from an album compiled by Augustus Cholmondeley Gough-Calthorpe (1829-1910), 6th Baron Calthorpe from 1893. This particular portrait was dated 30 August 1861 on the album page below the image; this could either be the date the sitter visited Disdéri’s studio or the date on which the portrait was given to the compiler of the album. |
