The Hon. and Rev. Francis Grimston
(1822-1865)

Born on 8 December 1822 at Gorhambury in Hertfordshire, the Honourable Francis Sylvester Grimston was the sixth and youngest son of James Grimston, 1st Earl of Verulam and his wife, Lady Charlotte Jenkinson, daughter of the 1st Earl of Liverpool. From the late 1840s he was the Rector of Wakes Colne in Essex. He appears on the 1861 census living at the Rectory there with his family, a governess and seven servants. 

The Honourable and Reverend Grimston was also an amateur cricketer. A wicket-keeper, he was mainly associated with Cambridge University and Marylebone Cricket Club, making eighteen known appearances in first-class matches between 1843 and 1851.

He died, aged 42, on 28 October 1865 at Wakes Colne Rectory in Essex. He left an estate valued at £16,000.
