Miss Charlotte Finch
(1837-1897)

Volume 1, page 61, sitting number 449.

Charlotte Matilda Elizabeth Finch was the daughter of George Henry Finch and Lady Louisa Somerset, fifth daughter of the 6th Duke of Beaufort.

She appears on the 1861 census as 'Charlotte M. E. Finch,' unmarried and living at her father’s house, Burley-on-the-Hill, near Oakham in Rutland. She gave her age as 24, so she was born in or about 1837. She gave her place of birth as London, Middlesex.

On 6 January 1882 at All Saints' Church in Ennismore Gardens in Knightsbridge she married Reverend George Waller, the Rector of St John and St Clement's, Stamford.

The couple appear on the 1891 census living at 21 St George's Square, Stamford, Lincolnshire. The Wallers had two live-in servants, specifically a cook and a housemaid.

Mrs Charlotte Waller died, aged 60, on 27 October 1897 at 13 Belvedere Terrace, Church Road, Tunbridge Wells. She left effects valued at £3018.

[From an album compiled by the sitter's first cousin, the Honourable Augustus Gough-Calthorope, later 6th Baron Calthorpe.]
