(1791-1866)
11 December 1861

Volume 5, page 273, sitting number 6588.

[A portrait of the sitter's son Lieutenant Arthur Paget appears on page 29 of this section.]

Identified as 'J.M. Paget, Esq.' in the Silvy daybooks, this is John Moore Paget of Cranmore Hall, East Cranmore in Somerset.

Born on 17 June 1791, he died at Cranmore Hall on 4 June 1866, at the age of 74. He left an estate originally valued at £25,000 but resworn at £20,000 a few months later.

A short announcement of his death appeared in the Western Gazette (8 June 1866): 'We regret to announce the death of John Moore Paget, Esq., of Cranmore Hall, who died on Monday last, at the ripe old age of 74. Mr Paget was father to Major Paget, M.P. for East Somerset, who, we believe, succeeds to very considerable landed estates.'
