Lady Harriet Spencer-Churchill
and Jane Spencer-Churchill
(1832-1901 and 1858-1940)
18 February 1861

Volume 2, page 213, sitting number 2141.

Born the Honourable Harriet Louisa Hester Gough-Calthorpe in 1832, she was the daughter of Frederick Gough-Calthorpe, 4th Baron Calthorpe, and sister of Augustus Gough-Calthorpe, who compiled the album in which this portrait appears.

On 5 February 1857 she married Lord Alfred Spencer-Churchill (1824-1893), second son of the 6th Duke of Marlborough. She died on 20 July 1901.

Lady Spencer-Churchill is seen here with Jane, the eldest of her four daughters, who on 5 February 1879 married Sir Francis Salwey Winnington, 5th Baronet Winnington. She and her husband appear on the 1881 census visiting Cecil Samuda, an Oxfordshire landed proprietor. She gave her age as 23, so she was born in 1858 or 1859. She died on 20 June 1940.
