Lady Walter Scott
(1837-1886)

Born Anna Maria Hartopp on 23 July 1837, her father was Sir William Edmund Cradock-Hartopp, 3rd Baronet Cradock-Hartopp. She married Lord Walter Charles Montagu-Douglas-Scott, son of Sir Walter Francis Montagu-Douglas-Scott, 5th Duke of Buccleuch, and Lady Charlotte Thynne, on 7 October 1858. She died in London on 29 May 1886 at the age of 48.

Various reports of her death appeared in newspapers over the following week. 'The death is announced of Lady Walter Scott, which occurred at 3 A.M. Saturday at the family residence in Grosvernor-crescent. Her ladyship had been ill four days, from congestion of the lungs. She was the fourth daughter of the late Sir William Cradock-Hartopp, and sister of Lady Edward Pelham-Clinton, Lady Scott and the Countess of Shannon; and married October, 1858, Lord Walter Scott, fourth son of the late Duke of Buccleauch, whom she leaves a family of three sons and a daughter' (St James's Gazette, 31 May 1886).
