Mrs Susan Hambro

Susan Amelia Yorke was the daughter of the Honourable and Venerable Henry Reginald Yorke and Flora Elizabeth née Campbell. From 1832 to 1871 her father held the rectory of Wimpole (a living in the gift of his brother, Lord Hardwicke), and Susan was christened there on 22 March 1839.

On 15 December 1857, aged 19, in Wimpole Church, she married Charles Joseph Theophilus Hambro, son of Charles, Baron Hambro. Her husband, who was born in Copenhagen, was a member of the banking family which shared his name. The witnesses were the Earl and Countess of Hardwicke, Viscount Royston, and Lord Hambro.

Mrs Susan A. Hambro appears on the 1861 census, living with her husband Charles T. Hambro at 30 Great Cumberland Place, Marylebone [just north of Marble Arch]. He gave his profession as 'Landed Proprietor, J.P. Captain Volunteers, Barrister (not in practice).'

On the night of the 1871 census, Mrs Hambro was staying at the Lamb Hotel on the High Street in Ely, Cambridgeshire, and in 1881, she was living with her husband and daughter at 22 Mansfield Street, Marylebone, London.

Mrs Susan Amelia Hambro died in London on 9 July 1887, at the age of 48.
